With all the rain we have had this spring, standing water and flooded fields are creating a mosquito breeding frenzy. With this massive onslaught of soon to be hatched mosquitoes comes the inevitable West Nile Virus. Could this be the year that it spread uncontrolled? Everyone in the Fort Wayne and Allen County area should take precautions to control these unwanted pests. Being proactive and eliminating standing water in your yard, ditches and other areas is the best way to start the mosquito pest control. As Always I’m sure the city of Fort Wayne and other rural Indiana towns will control these pest through regular spraying during the summer months. Many of the town residents myself included frown on this nasty smelling cloud of pest control spray being flung around wildly but I guess its better than getting West Nile virus. Old tires, planters, kiddie pools and any other possible container that could hold standing water should be emptied to help with the mosquito control. I’m certain sales of over the counter bug sprays, bug zapper and mosquito magnets will be hot items in the local Wal-Mart bug control section, so if you need one better get one now as those seasonal insect control items often sell out early and don’t get replenished. I for one have stocked up on Ortho concentrated pest control for my yard sprayer
In addition to mosquitoes this heavy rain will probably bring on an onslaught of other outdoor pests like ticks, fleas and ants. Anytime there is a wet spring it leads to an abundance of these other annoying insects. Take care and eliminate these backyard and household pests using over the counter bug sprays, pesticides and other pest control products. Don’t forget the dogs and cats they will need protection from the ticks and fleas as well. Petsafe makes some very good pest control products for animals including flea and tick shampoo, collars and sprays.
No matter how you choose to control household pests is up to you but try to be as environmentally friendly as possible so as not to harm others. But I do urge each and everyone to take a stroll along their yard do their part in the neighborhood pest control. None of us want an outbreak of any mosquito, tick or flea born disease.
I hadn’t really thought about mosquitoes when it comes to pest control but it definately makes since. I’ve spent my spring just trying to eliminate the house of ants
