Here in the United Stated divorce and divorce lawyers have almost become the norm for society. Let me tell you a story about an 8yr. Old little girl from Yemen. This little girl was who forced her to marry a 30-year-old man walked into court by herself on April 2nd to file for divorce and prosecute her father. No divorce attorney, no parents, no law enforcement officers with her, she was all by herself. She sought out a judge to prosecute her father for making her marry a man 22yrs older. There is a law in Yemen that allows parents to circumvent a 15-year-old age requirement for marriage if they arrange the child’s marriage. If a child is married prior to the age of 15 under law the husband is not allow to be intimate with her until she is of age. Due to the child’s age she was not permitted by law to prosecute her father but the judge did hear her complaint of abuse, rape and physical beatings and ordered the arrest of both the girls father and husband.
I for one was completely appalled at the tail of this little girl and in her case fully understand why she filed for divorce and wanted her father in jail. However, I cannot understand the divorce rate here in the United States. When a man and a woman make a commitment to share their lives in marriage till death do them part, that is what I fully expect. I’m afraid with the frequency of divorce in today’s society we are teaching kids that marriage is like a toaster. When it’s broke just throw it away and go get a new one. All you see on television and billboard ads are commercials from attorneys looking to handle divorce cases, file bankruptcy and personal injury cases. Our kids are being taught that when things go wrong you don’t work them out you just go get a lawyer, file a lawsuit or get a divorce from your problems. I urge kids and young married couples to look at the case of this 8yr old and learn to understand the difference between a valid reason for divorce and one of convenience.
