GE today announced that it plans on spinning off its Consumer and Industrial businesses into a new company. This spin off will include the GE appliances, Lighting and Industrial systems divisions.
What this will mean for the long standing GE lightbulb, toasters, refigerators, microwaves and stoves is yet to be seen. My understanding is that the new company created will retain the rights to use the GE name on their appliances, lightbulbs and motors. How long they will be able to sell products using the GE name is yet to be know. Perhaps one of America’s oldest brand name appliance will no longer exist. What will we do without the well know GE refrigerator, stove, or toaster in our kitchens? It will be interesting to see how this impacts the reputation and quality of appliances, light bulbs and other products that have been produced by these GE divisions for year.
